Black Friday IX – Underground Reco

4 min read

Well… February ended and what a month. Very good releases all over the world were unleashed in the UG. In Blessed Altar Zine we had the pleasure to review several. So, for this week I decided to review another 4 bands, so check it, listen to them and support them.

Band: A Vintage Death
Title: Acrid Death Fragrance
Label: Independent
Release Date: 09 December 2018
Country: Italy
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

From Italy arrived at my email box an introduction from this one man band. So, I decided to listen to this demo. It’s from December last year, and? No problem at all for me, since I’m always finding new and good bands. A VINTAGE DEATH is one of those new and good bands and “Acrid Death Fragrance” is their first release. This release is divided into five songs. We have here a Black Death Doom Metal, well… To be more correct and in my opinion, musically the band is more related to the Black Metal, that can be fast, mid-tempo and sometimes slower. It was in this time that I noticed the Death Doom part and… On the vocals, all over the demo, they are related to the Death Doom. On the last song, it reminds me a bit of Viking Metal, the riffs, the construction of the song. Hmm… It was an interesting hearing (All demo) and I’m waiting for a new release, till there I will listen to this one. Check them.

Band: Enter 6
Title: Black Dolphin
Label: Independent
Release Date: 15 March 2019
Country: Australia
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

When I saw on the promo email that ENTER 6 plays Thrash Metal, I thought to myself “I will listen to this band”. So here I’m, giving my opinion/words about it. Yes, they play Thrash Metal. Nothing new here, I’m not saying that is bad because is not, just saying that they didn’t bring any new kind of Thrash Metal (It’s a style that can’t be reinvented, and I say thanks to that). What ENTER 6 did and does is playing good FCKG Thrash Metal. I notice some influences, ranging from the Teutonic Thrash Metal to the US Thrash Metal or to some Swedish bands, so it reminds me sometimes old Kreator or Destruction, some Defiance (USA) or Sadus or even Carnal Forge (old). The construction of the songs, the passage to the “frenetic” riffs, it’s very well done. One small thing that I didn’t like on the album, Is the sound production. Could be stronger. It’s the only “bad” thing that I have to say concerning this release. Sadly I can’t put any song here because the band only have Facebook and no other social media in order to listen to the songs. Sorry about it…

Band: Drastus
Title: La croix de sang
Label: Norma Evangelium Diaboli (NoEvDia)
Release Date: 01 March 2019
Country: France
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

Uh la la… What is this? What is this that comes out of the columns of my stereo? It’s DRASTUS. Right on the first song and I’m already in love with the band.  Song after song and the quality of the same are higher. The sound production, the construction of the songs, the details on the drums, the sick vocals (even when it is clean). Everything in this release is a… Masterpiece. Yes, I said that, because is my sincere opinion… Awww… I didn’t said yet the music style of the band. EhEh. They play Black Metal that reminds me (a lot) Thorns and sometimes Deathspell Omega. But it’s not because of those bands that I’m in love with this album. It’s because of the quality. It’s because of the atmosphere around all songs. There is not a single song on this album that I do not like. Excellent. Just listen to them.

Band: Ysbryd
Title: Kraft
Label: Purity Through Fire
Release Date: 11 February 2019
Country: Germany
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

Originally released on 15 June 2018 by the band, or better saying the one-man band, in Pro cdr format, and in the same year released on tape format by Worship Tapes, now is the time for the reissue by the label Purity Through Fire in CD (this edition includes Gestalt’s demo 2007) and A5 Digipak, Limited edition. YSBRYD plays Raw Black Metal. Period. It’s good, it’s direct and in your face, no keys, nothing more. Just Raw Black Metal. The rhythms of the songs are simple and sick with some melody on the leads. I like the voice, is a hoarse, sickly voice. Check them. Sadly… From this album no song available for listening. But on Youtube’s label, there is a song from the 2007 demo.
