Black Friday XIV – Underground Reco

4 min read

This week, I made a trip that… How can I say? Hmmm… A trip that is different from what I normally do. I went to U.K. and discovered Decoherence, went to Azerbaijan to discovered Violet Cold, then travel to the USA for Bather and ended in Iceland for Sólveig Matthildur… Just read it and listen to them.

Band: Decoherence

DECOHERENCE… Totally unknown to me… Yes, I admit that. And it is a big surprise with the music quality on this 7″ with just two songs.  That 7″ is giving me the thirst to listen to more songs from them. I want more, but I will have to wait. So let me talk about the two songs. The band is moving in the world of Black Metal and drinking the influences from the Scandinavian traditional roots of Black Metal, so if you listen to influences from bands like Marduk, Mayhem or Watain, don’t be surprised. But they also have influences from Leviathan for example or Aosoth creating an atmosphere around the songs. Very good indeed. This is a band that I will follow. Sadly for me, I didn’t find much info about them in order to know a bit more about them. Very good this release.

Band: Violet Cold
Title: kOsmik
Label: Avantgarde Music
Release Date: 11 April 2019
Country: Azerbaijan

It the world of music, and for the world of the Underground, that I love, I found almost everyday bands with quality and from places or countries that I do know many things or bands from there. This time it is a band from Azerbaijan and thanks to Avantgarde Music for that. This band is a mix of many styles, to be honest. It has Ambient and relaxing parts, Blackgaze, Sludge, Doom or Funeral dom, Rock, Black Metal, etc. Not all together like a mixed salad, even if I found it in the same song but with a border dividing it. The changes along the songs are simply amazing and the way the album is written, as it was imagined and/or elaborated … While the listening, I managed to “transport myself”, I will say, to another place far from here and to forget (a little) the world and how and what the “Human” race is at this moment. I didn’t find who recorded the Female voice that appears on the album. Final words. “CONGRATULATIONS” for this album, for the quality of the same, feelings around it and for what I got from it.

Band: Bather
Title: Bather
Label: Appalachian Noise Records
Release Date: 12 April 2019
Country: USA

BATHER… What I have here? Or better saying, what I heard? A band that doesn’t have afraid to show them influences. That is good in my opinion. They play Death Metal with Crust Punk influences or D-Beat, mixed with some hardcore. Yes… The part of the Death Metal with Crust or D-beat is very good, to be honest. The hardcore part… Well, they remind me of Earth Crisis (Yes I know them). My musical taste is not related to the Hardcore music style and I find many parts in the whole album. It’s well done, I admit it, but not my “Beach”. But… The whole album at the same time can be balanced with all the music styles above mentioned, and with that, this album can be an interesting listening. Thank you for that.

Band: Sólveig Matthildur
Title: Constantly In Love
Label: Artoffact Records
Release Date: 19 April 2019
Country: Iceland
Format Reviewed: High-quality digital promo

Sometimes I can be a bit curious in the world of the music, and yes, sometimes I left my comfort zone and start to look at different music. So… I decided to give a listen to this band, well… To this one Women band and I like it. It’s not metal and it’s not related to any metal music style. This is a solo project from Kælan Mikla that is located right now in Berlin. I do not know too much about this music style and the bands inside it. So this was a completely a discovery for me. Sólveig Matthildur can be ambient, with this music style I know a few things and I like it, but SÓLVEIG MATTHILDUR is not only Ambient, they move much more inside the “Trip Hop” music style. What? Yes, it’s the name of the music style. From what I know the most known bands inside this music style is Massive Attack or Portishead and I do not know anything more (I could “Google it” and look more “smart” but… Nahhhhh). The album “Constantly In Love”… No, is not my music style and no,  I will not listen to it too many times but I will if I want something outside “my metal box” with music quality. It’s different from what I normally hear and it’s good. So… Give her a chance. She deserves…
