“MUTILATRED exist for one reason… to pummel your rotting corpse to a pulp! No frills – no glossy image – all sickness! A bombastic combination of old school New York death metal, slam, and putrid death grind with heavy down tuned guitars, pounding shotgun blasts, and enough groove to beat someone’s face into oblivion.”

This description definitely caught my attention and I went down that road. Grabbed the new MUTILATRED EP gently called “Ingested Filth” for a review. The band released their debut full-length album “Dissecting Your Future” four years ago in 2015 which I listened as well in order to compare “then and now”. What made the impression that 2015 LP is more chopped and slightly polished in terms of sound. I don’t say it in a bad way, but “Ingested Filth” sounds much more into the contemporary death metal scene because of the rawness and primordial skull-crushing power it offers. I’m not that much into chopping rather prefer quicker tempo. So “Ingested Filth” for me is running better, it is more old school, heavier, quicker and in the same time so adequate to the trends.

Yes, I like the old school feeling in “Ingested Filth”. The drums can-ish sound and the raw low guitars. The vocals for sure are my kind with the very low growling by Pattrick Mcdonagh (who is playing guitars as well). This is a very intense EP. Just grabs you for the throat since the very first second and it doesn’t leave you till the end. Fatal and pummeling thirteen minutes indeed. The constant changes between slamming groove, the slower chopped riffs, the muddy asphyxiating feeling, give this EP solid base in the existing contemporary death metal scene. “Ingested Filth” contains 6 tracks only, and they never exceed the three minutes barrier – another reason for an intense experience provided by the quintet.  So this rough EP is definitely for the die-hards of the brutal death metal with an old-school feel.

Since the very first ripping through scream of the opener “Fuck Everything”, following by the chopping blasts of “Snap Your Own Neck”, the band is heating up the atmosphere. Exploding into the self-titled track where you almost can sing along the chorus. “Sitting Through Needles” and especially “Tortured” complete the fine butchering works. The closing track “Scooping Out The Brains” promises for a serious full-length record, where the MUTILATRED can realize their full potential of skull breaking, brain-damaging and body atrocities. 6.5/10 Count Vlad
