What a start… Featuring Spider (Drums) from Skulmagot and Kaos (Guitar and vocals) from Age of Woe, Rotten Sound and ex-Nasum (live), what you think do I have here to show you? Yes, you are correct. Death Metal / Grindcore / Powerviolence. And what a piece of brutality. Really. You need to listen to this. Simple, effective but devastating. This release is one perfect balance between Death Metal and Grindcore/Powerviolence. But not only. I found some Sludge moments and they are in the right place of the songs. Very good indeed. This is a band that I would really like to see live. It should be… Chaos…

Well… To start… REALLY? Ok, now explaining my caps lock word… But only after some words… What do I have here that surprised me so much? An excellent album of Technical Death Metal with some Black Metal touches. It wasn’t this mix who surprised me. The songs are very good, good riffs, the tempo and riffs/rhythms changes are very well achieved and I’m not a fan of Technical Death Metal. But there was something in the sound of the guitars, the sound was “strange”. Well, could be the sound production, but… So while the album was playing I started to read the promo sheet… And… Surprise, surprise. No guitars on this album. What? Yes. The line up is only two persons. Andy Meyer – 5 & 7 String Basses, Vocals, and Matt Wees – Art, Lyrics, Vocals. One small detail. The drums (programming) could be a bit better produced.

ASHLANDS are from Italy and this is the first EP the first in a trilogy of EPs that will be released. The band is composed by The Wanderer – guitars, bass, keys, clean vocals, lyrics, programming) and The Vanguard from Firbholg and The Vanguard – harsh vocals and lyrics. The band says them influences of the email, introducing themselves, explaining the sounds band and Summoning and Caladan Brood is mentioned. Well, they are telling the truth. The Epic Atmospheric Black Metal is the sound that defines this Italian band. The only 3 songs available here are amazing. Congratulations on that but, I have to say this, the sound production, a little better production would be wonderful. Why? In order for this EP be bigger, stronger. These songs needed it to be anthems/classics. But this band surprised me with the music quality. To end… One small note in order for the next EP. Do it fast cause I really want to listen to.
