So a new week has rolled around and still no giant cats outside destroying cities with laser beam shooting eyes like I was somewhat expecting. June is almost over, the Midsummer festival is behind us and I just can’t help but wonder…aren’t I supposed to be at a metal festival somewhere? Oh well.

UK based Foetal Juice released their second full length album Gluttony on June 12th, and it’s the first thing we hear from them since their debut album was released in 2016, so yay! I was excited when I started the album packed with 12 tracks full of gory death metal, and it surely was up to expectations.

Interestingly named, Take your Face for a Shit opens up the album with traditional riff based death metal a la Cannibal Corpse with crust punk. The production has set the bar quite high for the rest of the album and the vocals flow with the track like they belong. its relevant and interesting how the instruments are played, something which I heard throughout the whole thing. Septic Mollusc is as well extremely well performed, it gives it trustworthy feel to the listener to know that this isn’t a fluke sort of a thing; its going to be present until the end, so it will be time well spent.

In this line of metal in my opinion, groove is extremely important and here it is for sure. The display of intriguing collaboration of stringed instruments and the skin covered tubes remains through Manifestation of Falsity as well as the Cannibal Corpse vibe returns with Metamorphosis.

Worthless Delusion flirts with the melodic death metal riff opening the track and I liked the darker tone of this track which was different from the previous ones. I can only imagine that they are a treat to see live, and Nether Pandemonium supported that image as it will surely make people mosh in the crowd to the full out metal parts between the verses with double bass drumming and mauling guitars.

There are so many things I could say about the remaining tracks but I think I will leave it for the reader to find out. Spirit Leech closes this art work nice and fitting. This group does this in the same vein as the death metal greats such as CC and Deicide, while at the same time they manage to make the crust punk and grind core maniacs happy. It’s an impressive piece of work that I hope as many people as possible will give it a try. 8.5/10 Julia Katrin
