3 min read

There is no getting rid of our writers Julia Katrin and Tom Boatman is there? Now again back once more with another one of their everlasting installments of The Underground Updates!

So, let’s see what’s out there…

Band: Emperor

Do you happen to be free this coming Sunday?

Emperor has announced their upcoming live stream A Night of Emperial Wrath 2021 this coming Sunday, May 23rd, which will of course be rewatchable until May 26th. Rumor has it that some ex members of Mortiis and Faust will partake in the show, and as it will be hosted by Munin Live, you can head straight over here for your ticket!

Band: Steel Panther

It appears as if Steel Panther is as active as ever and are now ready with yet another live stream: Fans Come First, this coming Saturday, May 22nd from The Viper Room. The show will differ from all others they have done before since the setlist will be curated directly from the fans! If you would like to participate in the setlist you can check out this page here and for your ticket and some goodies you can head over here!

Band: August Burns Red

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of their album Leveler, August Burns Red plans to perform the album in its entirety in an upcoming live stream event this coming Saturday, May 22nd. Tickets are available over here, and make sure to check the goodies before they are gone!

Band: Spinebreaker

Don’t you sometimes feel like what you need some absolutely filthy, Hardcore infused Death Metal? If the answer is yes, you might have already come across Ice Grave, the debut album by California’s Spinebreaker. With a sound so filthy as to make Motörhead and Venom seem well-groomed by comparison. Having originally been released at the tail end of 2015 on Creator-Destructor Records, the album has now been made available on a very limited vinyl pressing. So why not torment your neighbours with some honest to goodness filth? If that piques your interest enter here for a copy.

Band: Lord of Pagathorn

From the name alone and the fact that the band hails from Finland you’ve probably guessed that Lord of Pagathorn are dealing in some artery slicing Black Metal. So it is with the band’s latest album “Age of Curse”. Due for release in just a few days time (May 21st) on Woodcut Records, you can pick up a copy of the album in pretty much any format your heart could desire (as well as a range of bundle options with some suitably demonic t-shirts). Head over to bandcamp to see what’s on offer.

Band: Erdve

Ready for some intense Baltic Sludge Metal? Season of Mist have announced the release of “Savigaila”, the second album by Lithuania’s Erdve and judging by the preview track below it’s going to be an album that’ll tear the fillings out of your teeth at 50 paces (which is to say, it’s catastrophically heavy). Although the album isn’t due out until July 23rd, copies of the regular and coloured vinyl are selling like the proverbial hotcakes, so if you want a copy, don’t delay and head over to bandcamp now.

Band: Pig Destroyer

And to finish off when it comes to extreme, there aren’t all that many bands who play harder, faster and more demented than Virginia’s Pig Destroyer. Fans of nightmare inducing, psychotic, auditory madness should be delighted to hear that the band’s 2004 bowel perforating monstrosity “Terrifyer” has been reissued on a tasty splatter vinyl edition. So why not damage your battered psyche further and pick up a copy here.

May is well on its way by now and the temperature is rising higher every day. It may feel off right now with the continued absence of most festivals and concerts, but once more we must make due with what we have, and of course continue to wash out horns!
