KMaN CHAINED TO THE RACKS – MAY 2019

METALLICA – “Master of Puppets” (1986)

Because: One of three vinyl purchases this month. Had some lowlife scum lift my OP copy back in the day and I’d never replaced until last week. “Disposable Heroes” is still their greatest moment!

GODFLESH – “Streetcleaner” (1989)

Because: Initially, because I pretty much devoured everything Earache records put out. But also, one of the heaviest industrial albums I’d ever heard at the time. Production is earth shattering! A classic of the genre! Again, one of the three vinyls I purchased this month. Immediately handed over the cash as soon as I saw it! Breed….Like Rats!

ENTOMBED – “Left Hand Path” (1990)

Because: The third of my vinyl purchases this month and one I have coveted for 20 years! Like hearing Slayer and Metallica some 7 years earlier, this was another life changing moment for me. Truly set me on the path to exploring Euro extreme Death Metal. Truly one of the greatest DM albums ever made. Utterly essential!

SATURNUS – “Paradise Belongs To You” (1997)

Because: One of the best things about being in radio during the 90’s is that I would be sent all of these killer underground Metal albums from Europe that I previously I could only ever read about. Euphonious Records sent me this in ’97 and it remains one of the greatest pieces of Melodic Doom/Death I’ve ever heard it. Dripping with mournful melancholy and sorrow, this album a masterclass of atmospherics in heavy music and hauntingly beautiful melodies. The spoken word vocals accentuate this even further. A My Dying Bride fans wet dream!

BOLT THROWER – …For Victory (1994)

Because: A weekly does of BOLT THROWER does me wonders. Without it, carnage on the way to work would ensue! The pummelling double bass and riffage of “War” is cathartic. BOLT THROWER just fucking rule. That is all.
