YETI’S IN ROTATION: SEPTEMBER 2019

The grim season is upon us. As we inch toward year end, thoughts are starting to form around best-of lists and even decade end lists for some. This time of the year is always crazy for me, but luckily there has been a steady stream of new releases to keep me occupied. I’ve been blasting metal from France with Mithridatic and Blut Aus Nord taking up some time, but I’ve also been looking into all the wickedness coming from Dark Descent Records, 20 Buck Spin, and The Artisan Era the last few weeks and into the horizon. There’s a lot going on these days, so take a few minutes to enjoy some of the killer tunes, courtesy of the squatch!

BLUT AUS NORD – Hallucinogen
Debemur Morti Productions – September 20, 2019

I haven’t been able to get these guys out of my head for weeks. They play some wicked “Black n’ Roll” this time around, which is full of devastating riffs and emotional groovey solo work that hits hard and cuts deep. With some wicked cover art and a trippy concept to back it up, Blut Aus Nord are sure to land high on many year-end lists to come…

SINGULARITY – Place of Chains
October 2019, The Artisan Era

The Artisan Era have been full of many pleasant surprises this year. SINGULARITY is just the next delicious tech-death band in the ranks of chaos. “Place of Chains” was released October 11 and showcases a brilliant array of proggy technical brutality with a wicked symphonic atmosphere. Prepare to meet the robot gladiator overlords!

GATECREEPER – Deserted
October 2019, Relapse Records

Delivering consistent as hell and utterly devastating death metal is what Gatecreeper do best. Their latest of 11 releases since 2014 is their second full-length album “Deserted”. Also a contender for best album art of the year, it is everything you want in a modern death metal band so crank this up as loud as humanly possible!

REVOCATION – The Outer Ones
September 2018, Metal Blade Records

This past month I got to see Revocation play “The Outer Ones” in its’ entirety with Conjurer, Skeletal Remains, Voivoid, and Psycroptic as support. Amazing show but as a result I’ve had the riff from “That Which Consumes All Things” stuck in my head for weeks. I’m not complaining but now it’s your turn to enjoy the same fate.

FUMING MOUTH Mouth – The Grand Descent
June 2019, Triple-B Records

This is one that slipped through the cracks on me for a bit. After finally getting around to checking them out, I’ve had them on steady. Their sound is a thick and volatile death metal/hardcore/sludge hybrid that spews aggression. Fuming Mouth are full of surprises so check them out and get angry!
